Spammer Purge

#1
Exclamation
So hey there were like a hundred of them.

I deleted a bunch of accounts and blacklisted at least one mail website. Hopefully that stops whatever was going on there. I'm not sure what they were doing since I've only seen one post break through our filters, but I did have a bunch of junk mail in the admin box from here so maybe it was just that.

If you got caught in the crossfire, I apologize. Please ensure you have an avatar set for your profile, as that was the primary common thread between all of the bot accounts and will thus ensure I am less likely to nuke you in the future if we find ourselves here again.

Gonna post my discord reply here on the forums because relevant: should get a captcha plugin and/or figure out how to get email verification setup. The lack of both of them is how you got so many spam accounts. Also, considering the lack of use of the forums basically entirely, you could've gone by account age (the member list will let you see members from oldest to newest).

thing says email and capcha are both set up and have been the entire time. no clue why so many people say they never get the verification emails, but some do, so it clearly works in so much as it sends the things out.

(Also, we not only do not need a capcha plugin, but also the native capcha supports something like six different capcha formats. It's on for account creation by default, I believe, but also kicks in over failed login attempts and a few other things. I fiddled with some settings while I was in there so y'all shouldn't need to contact me if you forgot your passwords and locked something anymore??? I hope.)

So a few more have popped up already and what I'm seeing is that they can make the accounts but keep failing to activate themselves??? I am unsure how they are even getting that far, though...

Okay, so

It turns out that MyBB's default capcha is, by the admission of their own documentation, pretty easily bypassed and a bit shit.

Their recommendation was to enable the reCAPCHA setup, which required me to do some shit on my end to get going but should be
1) invisible, and
2) in place now

Hopefully that solves the issue for real, now.

Also, I fixed the logo in the corner. Hooray.

Ketirz forum logo! :powerlevelrising:

Something like reCAPTCHA is what I meant, but I also forgot that MyBB comes with it's own, really basic captcha verification. Sorry for not being more clear I suppose.

It's fine. I am the fool who thought the built-in default would be the most compatible good thing to use.

It is the most compatible, with bots!
